How the math works Pick a direction under Convert, then type a Hex number (digits 0–9 and letters A–F, where A = 10 and F = 15) or a Whole number. Each hex place is worth 16 times the place to its right (1, 16, 256, 4,096…), so decimal = the sum of each digit × its place value. A leading “0x” is allowed and ignored. Binary and octal versions are shown too; only whole numbers from 0 up to 9,007,199,254,740,991 (1FFFFFFFFFFFFF in hex, about 9 quadrillion) are accepted. The formula: Decimal = sum of (digit × 16^position), counting positions from 0 on the right. Hex digits A–F stand for 10–15. Each place is worth 16 times the place to its right.
